Chargemaster Analysis
Maintaining an accurate chargemaster is key to a physician’s revenue integrity.
Healthcare providers should maintain a comprehensive chargemaster database of billable items and services to ensure accuracy. The chargemaster captures costs from procedures, prescription drugs, supplies, and all fees associated with medical treatments.
At a minimum, a chargemaster should be reviewed annually to confirm all services are listed, remove deactivated codes, and ensure the charge amounts are optimized for payor contract allowable rates. Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes should also be audited and evaluated annually to confirm alignment with UCR charge amounts in a physician’s respective geographic region.
